The 3D Viewer
The centrepiece of CliniX is the 3D viewer displaying the 3D content of the chosen scene.
Navigation in the 3D Viewport
Navigation and interaction of the 3D model in the viewport is achieved with your standard mouse, or if you are using a laptop your touchpad. The controls have been designed to guarantee quick adoption of the control system by the operator or surgeon. It also helps to understand that you move and rotate the virtual camera around the 3D model, rather than moving the actual 3D model.
MovingTo move the camera, place your mouse pointer over the top of any part of the 3D model and hold down the left mouse button. With the left mouse button held down move the mouse.
|
RotatingTo rotate the camera around the 3D model, make sure your mouse pointer is not placed over the top of any part of the model (so it is located over the grey background) and hold down the left mouse button. With the left mouse button held down move the mouse.
|
ZoomingZooming into and out of the model can be done in several ways. FocusingIf you can see an area of the model you which to ‘focus’ on you can quickly double click the left mouse button with your mouse pointer located over the desired area.

Hiding & Highlighting Objects
Scene MenuTo hide or show a piece of the model move your mouse pointer to the right hand side of the screen edge. This will pop open the ‘Scene Menu’ from here you can click the left mouse button over one of the ‘eye’ icons next to the name of the object you wish to hide. You can also hide whole groups of objects by clicking on ‘eye’ icon next to the name of the group (located above the lists of multiple objects).
|
Hot BoxAnother method of hiding objects is to place your mouse pointer over an object that you wish to hide or show and hold down the left mouse button whilst not moving the mouse. This will activate the ‘HotBox’. Currently there are two icons in the ‘HotBox’. The ‘eye’ icon, located on the left, will hide the object selected. The ‘highlighter’ icon will colour the object yellow, thus visually highlighting it for your audience. To show and object that has been hidden you must go into the scene menu (moving your mouse pointer to the right hand screen edge) and click on the closed ‘eye’ icon.

Hiding & Highlighting Objects
Scene SwitchingIf the 3D pack you are viewing has a switchable scene available you will see the ‘Scene Switch’ icon on the top of your 3D Viewers toolbar. Clicking on this will switch your current scene to the other scene. You can go back to your original scene by reclicking on the Scene Switch icon. For example, in AnatomiX content packs the ‘Normal Anatomy’ of the area is available as a Scene Switch to the disorder anatomy.
